Child Informed Mediation is conducted by a registered mediator along with a Child Consultant (someone with a mental health background). The Mediator will meet with and conduct mediation with the parents in similar to traditional mediation. However, this process of mediation embraces the need to assist parents who are in dispute to refocus on and plan for the needs of the children, post-separation. The process includes a developmental consultation with the children. The consultation and the feedback from the consultation is intended to assist the parents to create or change parenting arrangements and to change or redirect their conflict resolution approach between themselves while focusing on the needs of the children in a post-separation environment.
The Child Consultant will meet with the children in a safe setting to find out what it is like for this particular child at this particular point in their life. The Goal is to discover where the child is developmentally in relation to the current setting. The Mediator and the Child Consultant will meet to discuss the needs of the children and the parents prior to a feedback session with both parents. The feedback session is geared to educate and explore where the children are, what their current needs are and how the parents can work together to create a post-separation arrangement that works for everyone, while keeping the best needs of the children front and center.
The benefits are many:
